THE WORLD FROM MY BIKE

PHOTO MEDITATION ON THE ROAD

In my photo meditation book, you’ll find the world from my bike. The way I saw it, felt and understood it. This is my way to give back. To pass this precious grain to somebody else, who will understand with not many words needed.

Four years ago, in July of 2013, I left my home country of Ukraine to journey around the world by motorcycle, a KTM Adventure 1190. The idea was to travel for two years and cover all rideable continents, or as far as my limited resources could take me. I was prepared to come back after several months, if my funds ran out. This did not happen and I continued to travel for the twice my estimated time, and am still on the road.

While traveling, when encountering difficulties and miraculous solutions, I was overwhelmed with wonderful discoveries and the beauty of nature, of the human spirit, and life. Excited to share these experiences I came up with the idea of making a photography book to provide a glimpse into these years on the road.

In this book you will find 365 selected photos, short stories and reflections from the places I visited over four years. The photos are grouped not in chronological order, nor by countries or continents, but according to the emotions I felt at different stages of my journey. Mine is not only a journey around the world, but also a journey inside of myself.

Happiness

I am happy. The first thing I can say or think when it comes to traveling around the world. I appreciate and cherish every moment of being on the road. It is often not easy or joyful but always fulfilling and inspiring. I bless the day when I decided to turn my dream into reality.

Sometimes I like to stop. A desert, a jungle or a huge city. Any place. And catch a moment I don’t want to dissolve in time and space. Keep silent and calm, beholding and contemplating, waiting for birth of inner fragile beauty and sense. Those moments are my insights teaching me the essence of things, similar to when your mind is cleared after meditation.

I started my trip as a project of traveling the world and covering the continents within two years. Later on it turned into my way of life. The only life I remember and want to live. Three years have passed and I’m still on the road. I don’t know how many will be enough to quench my thirst.

Challenges

It might sound strange talking about challenges and hardships while living one’s dream and enjoying it. But the truth is I don’t always smile and feel happy, sometimes I cry. At times I feel down and lonely, or feel fear, doubt and a lack of confidence. The road is my life, and like any normal life it consists of the whole lot of experiences and emotions.

I count my journey not by kilometers under the wheels of my bike, but by these insights and pieces of wisdom ingrained into my mind and soul. The road became my master and mastermind.

In my photo meditation book, you’ll find the world from my bike. The way I saw it, felt and understood it. This is my way to give back. To pass this precious grain to somebody else, who will understand with not many words needed.

I’m giving back. One hint, one look, one glimpse might be enough to show you the whole world. The world from my bike. The world I love and admire. Take it and make it yours. Join me in this love and admiration.

Lessons

It can be good or bad, cheerful or sad. I might like it or not. No matter what may have happened, it is a valuable lesson. My task is to observe, accept and learn. I am molded and shaped into a new person, and I hope, a better person.

Fun

Sometimes I think that my biggest challenge is to let go and unwind. And my most important lesson is to learn to have fun, take it  asy and just enjoy. The road is not only about some serious and lifechanging stuff. I’ll get there, reach my goals and fulfil my dreams but not without a good laugh once in a while and bringing out the child inside of me.
